Mr R, S. Kent, South Island Divisional Superintendent of the New Zealand Railwavs, who has been in Dunedin in connection with the Pelichet Bay deviation, returned to Christchurch this morning. Mr A. S. Couksou left for Wellington by the second express this morning. Mr A. H. Nordmeyer has received advice from tho University of New Zealand that he has completed his examination fur the diploma in social science. The following new names liavo been registered in the guest book at the Grand Hotel:—Mr A. Bruce (Wellington), Mr \V. Winter (London), Mr R. Mathews (Svdney), Messrs -J. H. Boyd and C. Craig (Auckland), Mrs Gordon Macdonald (Federated Malay States), ijr P. Collins (Invercargill), Messrs A. ISiith, A. Freeman, and G. W. Fairweathor {Christchurch), and Mr H. Freeman (Melbourne). The Roman Catholics of Mosgicl assembled at Holy Gross College on Saturday afternoon to welcome the Rev. Dr Liston, who, prior to being appointed co-adjutor Bishop of Auckland some live years ago, had ministered to the Mosgiel parish. Tho, Rev. Father Collins presided over the gathering, and during an interval presented Bishop Lisiou with a token of esteem. Several members of tho congregation endorsed Father Collins’s speech of welcome, and expressed their pleasure at having Dr Liston amongst them once again. Hr Liston acknowledged tho kindly feelings which had prompted tho welcome". New guests booked at tho Excelsior Hotel are Mrs C. Bonnette (Albury), Mr D. S. Morgan (Wellington), Mr VV. S. Short (Auckland), Mr H. Lightband and Air and Mrs A. Blake (Christchurch), Mr Gordon (Napier), Mr A. Peters (Whangarei). The staff of the Perpetual Trustees Company met on Friday evening to bid farewell to Miss A. iS. M'Kenzie, who is shortly to be married. Mr A. Ibbot-son (general manager), in a pleasant speech, referred to tho esteem in which she was held and to her many good qualities. On behalf of the directors and staff he presented) her with a pewter tea service and cake basket. A Sydney cable records the death of Mr H. E. Draff, a distinguished scholar, and for many years warden of the Sydney University. A London cable states that Lord Milner is seriously ill. He is suffering from sleeping sickness.
