LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS.
TO THE ETHTOT!., Sir, —In your editorial on Monday and in a letter from the Dunedin Citizens’ League the Labor Party is criticised for its action in running a ticket for the local body elections. The object of this kind of propaganda is to keep the City Council, the Hospital Board, and the Harbor Board as a preserve for reactionaries who have always opposed the workers. I wish to point out that it was not the Labor Party that originated the ticket system, it was the Citizens’ League, or. as it was termed a. few years ago, “ Loyal Citizens’ League.” The _ Labor Party realises that the Citizens’ League ticket can only be effectively fought by a Laborticket. The Labor candidates are selected by organisations which are affiliated to the Otago Labor Representation Committee. The organisations affiliated comprise trade unions and Labor Party branches, and I would suggest that the members of these organisations are citizens of Dunedin, as well as the members of tiro so-called Citizens’ League. At the present time the Otago Labor Representation Committee has through its affiliations over 5,000 members, every one of which didates. _ ’cnifw-yp cmfwy has a say in the sflSeiion of Labor candidates. —I am, etc., R, G. M'Donnki.l, Hon. Secretary, Otago Labor Representation Committee. Ajuil 28*
