MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY Speaking at the citizens’ service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on the evening of Anzao Day, the Rev. W. H. Roberts referred to the severe illness of the Prime Minister. He said that, no matter of what political opinion, the individual members of the public fully realised how ably ho had conducted the affairs of this country during the stress and strain of the Great War. The hearts of the people of the dominion at the present moment were directed sympathetically to his bed of suffering, with tho earnest prayer that he would recover and again resume his high position in the direction of the affairs of this country and the Empire of which it formed a part. At Friday’s meeting of the Shipwreck and Relief ’ Society a resolution of sympathy with the Right Hon. W .F. Massey (a vice-nitron) in his illness was passed. At (he meeting of the Harbor Board on Friday night tho Chairman (Mr D. Larnach) raid that when ho had first heard of the Prime Minister's illness he had wired to Mr Massey’s secretary expressing sympathy, and had received a message acknowledging his wire. Mr Larnach then moved—“ That, the members of the Otago Harbor Board, recognising the onerous responsibilities of the Right Hon. the Prime Minister during recent years, desires ter convey to him their regret at his protracted and serious illness, and their sincere hope Unit lie may have a speedy recovery. The motion was carried.
