The Hawkins, of 9,750 tons, cost £1,636,000. The Frobisher, which was completed in 1924, cost £2,071,000. The Effingham (unfinished) is costing £2,174,000, equivalent to £223 per ton, whereas the pre-war cruisers cost £75 per ton. 'The, Furious, of 19,100 tons, which was laid down in 1915 as a cruiser, is being transformed into an aircraft iarrier.
