BAND FESTIVAL
A unique function will be held at the Exhibition Buildings to-morrow afternoon, wlicn the three local bands which intend to compete at. (lie New Zealand championship band contest in Auckland will present a musical programme of musical interest in No. 1 Court, which lias, by the courtesy of (ho directors, been placed at the disposal of (he bands to assist them in raising (be necessary funds required for their journey north. Messrs Fletcher and Love, the. contractors for the Exhibulion, put special gangs of carpenters on at a moment’s notice in order to have the. flooring ready and to make adequate entrance, and exits for the crowd. The St. Kilda Municipal. Kaikorai, and Artillery Bands will each contrilmie complete programmes, consisting of the test pieces, sacred and secular, and with other favorite selections. This is the first public function to be held in (lie Exliihiton, and huge as the building s, it should bn taxed to its utmost to accommodate (hose seeking a real musical treat, and at the same lime to assist, in helping our local bandsmen to represent, Dunedin at (he big contest. A considerable amount of money is si ill required, and it is trusted that the, public will be liberal in their donatons and purchase the programmes which will bo on sale.
