Ewe: Light, B|d per lb; heavy, 7-Jd per lb; market slow. Messrs A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., to-day received .the following cable from London, dated 26th inst. ;—“ Butter (firm), 160 s, 158 s; cheese (steady), 955, 945.” Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from London, dated 26th inst. “ Furred skins : Attendance of buyers is very large. German buyers show much eagerness. As compared with last sale’s closing rates prices are higher. Opossum skius generally, 10 per cent., 15 per cent.; except blacks, 5 per cent.” CANTERBURY MARKETS. [Pee United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, January 27. Farmers are accepting the current wheat prices—6s sd, 6s 7d, and 6s 9d, f.0.b., sacks extra—for the various varieties, though there is a strong feeling that the Australian prices warrant 7s per bushel. Algerian oats are tumbling in, and the yields are showing no diminution. From 2s 3d to 2s 5d is being quoted. Very few Cartons have been offered, and a few sales have been made at up to 3s on t rucks. Western Wolths and Italian rvegrass are worth from 2s 7d to 3s per bushel, on trucks, and perennial 3s to 5s 4d. Blight is reported to have appeared :m several districts in the potato crops, which is somewhat early in the season. The wet weather has helped blight conditions in both potatoes and onions, hut the present cold snap may arrest it. Farmers are not disposed to 'sell their potatoes at the prices offered, which are £3 15s to £4, on trucks, for the main crop. AYRSHIRE HEIFER’S RECORD. It was reported at a meeting of the executive of the Ayrshire Cattlo Breeders’ Association that Fair Maid, of Greenback Junior, a two-year-old heifer, bred and owned by Mr Vi r . Moore, Homcbush, Masterton, had just completed a semi-official lost over 365 days, and had created a record for all classes of Ayrshires in the dominion, with the exception of the four-year-old division, having produced 12,281 lb of milk and 7,5561 b of butter-fat. At tne wool sales there was a good selection of merinos, and competition for best wools was fairly good. Inferior lots aro still neglected, and were mostly withdrawn.
