CRIMINAL AND Cim THE YEAR’S FIGURES. The rTilums of the Dunedin Magistrate's Court for the past year shows that 2,147 persons were charged with criminal offences and offences against bv-laws, ns compared with 1,966 during 1923. The number of juvenile offenders during 1924 was 115, as against 135 in 1923. There was a very largo increase in tho civil business as compared with tho previous year, as the following table shows ; Plaints entgred—'l924, 4,029; 1923, 2,952. Amount sued for —1924, £51,335 11s 7d; 1923, £40,162 2s 3d. Cases tried—l 924, 2,005; 1923, 1,583, Amount involved—--1924, £26,489 13s 3d; 1923, £24,752 6s lOd. Amount recovered—l 924, £24,732 6s lOd; 1923, £21,141 18s Id.
