SCHOLASTIC “RINGING-IN”

DELAHUHTY AND MULLENGER SENTENCED. FINED £lO EACH. . James Martin Delahunty and George E. Mullenger came before His Honor Mr Justice Sim this morning for sentence on charges of forgery and uttering respec-tively-in connection with the teachers’ D examination in August of last year. Neither of the accused was represented by counsel. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr F. B. Adams) stated that these cases were similar to others which arose out of the same examination, and which came before the court some time ago.

His Honor,: These offences were committed before the decision of the Court of Appeal. Mr Adams indicated that the offences were committed at the same time as others which had previously come before the court. Both of the accused had been employed as teachers during the last year, this making it important that convictions should be obtained in order that they should be cleared off the list of those entitled to teach. His Honor said it would be sufficient punishment if the accused were dealt with m the same way as other offenders wore dealt with in similar-circumstances. Each of the prisoner’s would be ordered to pay a fine of £lO.

His Honor did not fix any alternative of imprisonment, but simply ordered the payment of the fine as soon as possible.
