THE PORT OF FREMANTLE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Press .Hsociatbu. MELBOURNE, December 5. Mr Bruce has telegraphed to Fremantle requesting police protection for the port officers required for overseas vessels. This action followed an interview with the Prime Minister by a deputation of ship owners, who asked for the Federal Government’s intervention, ns the notion of the Seamen's Union at Fremantle had prevented the local Harbor Trust from piloting or berthing ships. Federal intervention is strictly confined to Fremantle, as that is the only port in the Commonwealth which is virtually closed- as a result of the seamen’s strike. SUGGESTION FOR SETTLEMENT. PERTH, December 4. {Received December 4, at 10 a.in.) The Council of the “Australian Labor Party has decided to take the matter of the disputes of the Seamen’s Union out of the hands of tho secretary of the union, and to ask the State Disputes Committee to intercede, with a view to an amicable settlement as early as possible.
