THE YEAR'S OPERATIONS. GETTING BACK TO PRE-WAR STRENGTH. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 5. (Received December 4, at 8.50 a.m.) The annual report of the P. and 0. Company shows that, after allowing for depreciation and debenture interest, the credit balance is £1,072,000, including £IOI,OOO brought, forward. A dividend Is proposed of 5 per cent, on preferred shares, and of 12 per cent, on deferred shares, tax free. Two hundred and forty-nine thousand is added to the reserve for the redemption of debentures, and £139,000 to discount and charges on the debenture stock. The insurance fund remains at £3,218,000. The amount car ried forward is £IOI,OOO. The report states that the mail service was carried on under some difficulty, owing to losses by enemy action. Many fine ships will bo running next year, and there is every prospect of a reversion to Ihe full pre ’war schedule on all lines. The company hopes to resume at the beginning of 1925 the fortnightly service to Australia by means of the Cathay class of steamers now being constructed.—A. snd N.Z. Cable.
