An Association message from Wellington states that in connection with a 'telegram from Dunedin stating that Miss Thurston, matron of Pukeora Sanatorium, Waipiikurau, has been appointed matron of Dunedin Hospital, it is now announced that Miss Thurston has declined the position.

Mr W. J. Scott has been nominated as the Otago candidate for the Rhodes scholarship this year. Mr Scott, who is ar arts student, entered the Otago University in 1922, and won a first class in English, and he was fourth in the history chass of about seventy members. Last year he won a first class in education and a second class in advanced English and advanced Latin. Mr Scott was born at Hilton, South Canterbury, twenty-one years ago, receiving his primary education at the local school. He then went to the Tnnani Boys’ High School, gaining a senior national scholarship in 1918. He won the Cain bequest essay junior prize, and in 1919, when he passed the matriculation examination, he won the Chamber of Commerce award for the highest aggregate for the school. In 1921 he won a senior national university scholarship and carried off the Cain bequest essay senior prize. On the athletic side of his attainments Mr Soott was vice-captain of ’.he Timaru High School first fifteen in 1921, first representing the school in senior grade in the previous year. In 1921 he also won the school boxing championship, the high jump, and the 440yds championship.
