CHORAL SOCIETY AND EXHIBITION.

TO XHI[ EDITOR. Sir, —As your local in Wednesday’s ‘ Star ’ has created a misapprehension in some minds, will you permit us to make tire position of the Choral Society quite clear ? Rumors have been falsely circulated that the Choral Society would disband during the Exhibition period, and consequently members, both active and honorary, have been inquiring if such is the case. At a full meeting of the committee of the society held on Tuesday, it was decided —“ That with a sixty-years’ terra of activity behind it (over 500 honorary and 150 active and orchestral members at present enrolled) it would be fatal to our society to disband or in any way reduce the number of our annual concerts. The active members are urged to retain Tuesday evenings exclusively for Choral Society practices.” This official statement was submitted to the members of the chorus at their practice, and it was open to them to express any opinion. They were addressed by Dr Galway, Messrs W. L. Logie and H. P. Desmoulins. The two former gentlemen emphasised- that the Choral Society was not in any way antagonistic to the Exhibition choir, which no doubt would receive support from individual members, but the Choral Society had a claim on the members for all Tuesday evening practices. Your report correctly covers Mr Desmoulins’s remarks. The Choral Society Committee wish to clear away any impression that there is any antagonism toward the Exhibition choir, and we thank you for allowing us the space in your columns to explain our attitude. —We are, etc., W. L. Logie, Chairman, G. Kirk, Hon. Sec. September 11.
