KAIKORAI FOOTBALL CLUB

ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT.

The annual smoko concert of tho Kaikorai Football Club was held last night in Kroon’s Hall. Mr F. Farley presided over a very largo attendance. Following the loyal toast, Mr W. Sinclair 'proposed the toast of " Tho Otago Rugby Football Union.” Ho said they should loyally support the union, especially at tin’s time, when there seemed to be a certain amount of disruption among Rugby players. If the game needed- improvement, let them stick together and improve it. (Applause.) Tno speaker paid tribute to tho work of the union.

Mr H. H. S. White (president of tho Otago Rugby Football Union) said, in reply, that tho Rugby Uuion was what the delegates to the clubs made it. Speaking anent the League, he said ha objected to any sport being introduced that did not have grounds of its own, and tried to take grounds from others. (Applause.) The union was in a sound position so far as finance was concerned, and had carried out great improvements to grounds, etc., since 1918.

Mr A. Hcffernan also responded. Mr White proposed “ Tho Kaikorai Club,” and referred to the presence there of Mr D. Duncan, one of its founders. Tho club was started in 1884—forty years ago. He thought it had a record of which any club might be proud. The club had won tiro senior flag '.welvo times. On twenty occasions Kaikorai men had captained the Otago team, and in 1905 a member (A. M’Donald) went Home with the All Blacks. He referred to other dis> fractions possessed by the club, and concluded by wishing it every success. Mr Farley and Mr 0. Sonntag replied to the toast, the latter congratulating ’Varsity on winning uhe premiership, and Pirates on winning the Aingo Shield, Mr L. Kemnitz presented life members’ badges to tho following:—Messrs F. Farley, D. Duncan, W. Sinclair, A. Armit, W. Wilkinson, J. MThtyro, J. Torrance, and F. A, Cubitt,

The Chairman then made presentations for services rendered to the club to the following:—Messrs G. M'Queen, A. Arjnit, and W. Burns. Other toasts honored were: “ Visiting Clubs,” ‘‘The Referees’ Association,” ‘The Press,” and “Supporters.” During ihe evening items were submitted by Messrs G. Nicol, P. Ramage, R. Knight, E. Hendry, T. Bonham, R, Farquharson, and _J. Paterson. Mr N. Bachop was the pianist.
