A strike of Covent Garden fruit and vegetable porters threatens to become nation wide owing to tiro action of the Transport Workers’ Union in telegraphing t'o the dockers at all ports to refrain from handlinggoods destined for Covent Garden.— Syonqy ‘ Sun ’ Cable. MUCH FRUIT HELD UP. LONDON, August 19. (Received August 20, at 11.16 a.m.) As a result of the Covont Garden strike, 20,000 tons of fruit is held up in the docks at London. The work of discharging the steamers wge stopped at mid-day. The dockers and carters at Hull, obeying instructions from London, will not handle fruit consigned to Covent Garden. The French supplies have been reduced to one-third of the normal quantity.— Reuter.
