RE-ELECTED

UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR AND VICE-CHANCELLOR, The Rev. Dr Andrew Cameron was yesterday re-elected Chancellor of the University of Otago, and Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., was re-elected Yivc-Chancellor, “ It gives me the greatest pleasure to nominate Dr Cameron,” said Mr W. J. Morrell. “He is not only a real asset to the University, but to this city and province. Wo all know the genial dignity with which he presides over us, and time after time we get proofs of his calm and wise judgment, and of the broad view that ho takes of everything affecting the Universitv. It is this that renders him so acceptable to the council, the teachers at the University, the students, and, indeed, to the whole community. I have tho deepest hope that Dr Cameron will again make the great sacrifice of accepting the office.” (Applause.) Dr Marshall Macdonald also paid a warm tribute to Dr Cameron, remarking that, whenever lie saw that somebody had made a donation to tho University, he had his suspicions of its origin. Dr Cameron never let his left hand know what his right hand had taken. (Laughter.) Dr Benham, speaking as one of the University professors, Dr Macdonald, as one of the Government’s representatives on the council, and Messrs J. W. Scurr and James Rennie added to the praises of the Chancellor. There was an emphatic and unanimous “ Aye” when the motion was put to the meeting. In returning thanks, Dr Cameron, speaking with emotion, said that his heart was in the work of tho University. Dr Fitzgerald then nominated Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., as Vice-Chancellor, referring to the splendid work done in trying times by Mr Sidey during Dr Cameron’s absence from New Zealand. This motion was also carried with enthusiasm.
