FIRE BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present—-Messrs J. Wilson (chairman), J. J. Clark, W. Bogg, IV, A. Rcoit, J. S. Hislop, J. S. Webb, and T. Chalmer. Superintendent A. G. Napier reported! as follows concerning the working of the brigade for July : —Thirty-four rails wee attended by the brigade during the month, of which number eleven wore fires in or mi property, nine were chimney fires, three grass fires, seven malicious false a Un-ms, two automatic false alarms, and two justifiable false alarms. The must serious happening of the month was undoubtedly the brigade collision, which occurred on the evening of August 3, and it was most fortunate th.t nothing further than material damage wrs occasioned. The injured men bad some time ago returned to duty. No. 1 motor bad been on duty for some weeks, and No. 7 motor would be placed on duty during next week. Another matter calling for mention was the increase in malicious false alarms. There was reason to believe that this would be minimised through the more or less compulsory absence' from the city of an undesirable. The btigado was called upon to deal with one or more, fires during the month which had all the appearance of being the ect of a misguided person. The St. John Ambulance motors were called upon on 103 occasions during the month. The, report was adopted.
