MOANA TENNIS CLUB

The annual general meeting of the Moana Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Somerset Lounge, on Tuesday evening. Mr F. If. Campbell presided, and there was a large attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president congratulated the club on its position both as gards standard of play, full membership, and financial standing. As the result of good management the committee was this year enabled to pay off a debenture debt on tho courts which has been outstanding for thirteen years, and the club would commence the year with a clean slate, tie expressed his groat pleasure at tho performance of the club’s first lady, Miss dean M'Laren, in interprovincial and New Zealand championship tournaments, and he hoped that, though defeated in the final of tho New Zealand Ladies’ Singles Championship last year, she would bring the cup back with her from Auckland this Christmas. Tho motion was seconded by Mr Sutherland and carried. The. following office-bearers were elected President, Mr F. H. vice-presidents—Messrs W. R. Brough, E. Sunderland, J. S. Nicolson, E. C. Reynolds, and J. Sparrow; secretary, Mr A. Nicolson: treasurer, Mr T. Long; auditor, M- E. j. .Anderson; committee— Misses Black and Bayley, Messrs Allan, Duthie, Cocke; delegates to association, Messrs D. St err iff and D. Duthie. On the motion of Miss Barclay it was decided to instinct tho Ladies’ Committee to see that belter arrangements were made for afternoon tea, and a proposal by Miss Sai.dci son that the ladies' room be modernised was agreed to. A general discussion then ensued on tho rules’of tho dub, particularly those relating to order of play and visitors’ days. Instructions were given to the incoming committee which will result in more attention being given to young players than Heretofore, and on the motion of Mr Shefriff it, was resolved that visitors* days should bo Monday and Friday of each week , ~ , Mr Long brought up the question, Ot electing a volley board, and this was referred to tho committee^ The opening day was fixed for September 27, and members wore asked to take this as an official intimation. After the formal business had been concluded the president entertained the club at supper, and songs were contributed by Airs Duthie and Miss Hey wood and Messrs E. J. Anderson and B. B. Cousto J A very pleasant evening was brought to a close by a vote of thanks, with musical honors, to Mr F. H. Campbell.
