RUNAWAY EXPRESS VAN

A two-horse express van began a mad career down Princes street south about noon to-day. It is surmised that a bag blew off the scat of the van and frightened the horses, the driver being away at tho time. One wheel was locked by a chain, but this did not hinder the runaways. A dear run was given them up Princes street past the bank. They chose the right side, and at Dowling street the van coilidcd with the electric box on the corner, smashing the casing. This did not bring the runaways to a stop, and it was only by the prompt action of n man jumping up behind and getting hold of' the reins that they were brought to a .standstill opposite the Queen’s Theatre.
