New Zealand hemp: August-October shipment, £57 per ton. Copra; South Sea bagged, August-Octo-ber shipment, 29s 6d per ton. Linseed oil, £4l 10s a ton, equal to 3s 5 4-5 d a gallon. Turpentine, 68s per cwt, equal to 5s 1 3-5 d per gallon. Sheep: Canterbury nominal light Bid, medium heavy 7 5-8 d; North Island light Bd, medium 7|d, heavy 7,jd; New Zealand owes, 7-jd; Argentine light 7|d, medium 7-id, heavy 6|d, ewes 6d; Patagonian light 7j(d, medium 6 5-Bd. Lamb: Canterbury light 11 5-Bd, medium heavy 10 5-Bd, seconds lljd; selecteds light lUd, medium 10£d; North Islands firsts Hid, seconds Hfd; Argentine seconds 10id. Frozen beef: Argentine fores 1 5-8 d; chilled Argentine fores hinds 6|d; Uruguayan fores 2d, sides s|d. Other meats are unchanged. A feature of the lamb trade is the demand for small plain, which is selling above the prime grades. Hides are in good demand. Australian salteds are quoted at to 9-i-d. —A. and N.Z. Cable. THE WHEAT MARKET, Press Association— -By Telegraph—Copy ’■ight. LONDON, August 17. (Received August 18, at 8.5 a.m.) Cargoes are firm, and sellers are asking a general advance of Is per quarter. In parcels a fair amount of business is passing at about 6d to 9d over last rates. — A. and N.Z. Cable. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Donald Reid ' and Co., Ltd., report:— Oats,—Thero is still a strong inquiry for' good bright lines suitable for seed purposes. Indications point to latecomers having to use Canadians, as offerings from the country have now ceased. We quote: A Gartens, 6s; B Cartons, 5s 9d (sacks extra). Chaff.—The market remains firm. Offerings are gradually getting fewer and fewer, and we con probably look for an increase in value at any time now'. We quote: £8 5s per ton, for prime, ex truck (sacks extra). Wheat.—The seed demand is now' practically finished, but any surplus is quickly snapped up by poultry feeders at same rates. We quote; 6s £d per bushel good whole (sacks extra). 1 Pofatoes.—Northern potatoes are still the main factor in market quotations. Taiori and Stirling grown are now getting scarce, and always command a better value than tho northerns. We quote £6 to £6 10s for northern grown (sacks in).
