CHORAL SOCIETY
The promised production of tho Weber opera ‘ Der Freischutz ’ by the Choral Society on Tuesday and Wednesday next week should receive hearty support from all music lovers. It is seldom that this society presents opera, tic works (no doubt the of tho society have good reason for this), but in this instance tho ‘ Der Freischutz ’ music contains not only the bright operatic numbers, tuneful and catching, hut also abounds in harmony parts which give tho chorus the scope which one expects to hear from a welltrained choir. Most of the_ soloists are well known to patrons. Miss Paine has given us recently some very line solo work. Miss Denholm’s appearance will be looked forward to with pleasurable anticipation, for she has some artistic work to undertake. Mr Sydney Butler is sure of a cordial reception from Dunedin patrons, as his past record is of a very high standard. Mr L. North. Mr G. Stuart Thomson, and Mr G. Kirk has each a fair share of solos; while in addition all the soloists are associated in concerted numbers. Operas always leave plenty of scope for the orchestra* and tho society’s orchestra (leader Mr J. A, Wallace) should give a good account of itself. Dr Galways and tho members of the society should bo greeted b v largo audiences. The plan Is at Tha Bristol.
