Mr B, J. Barrett, who has been on rt short visit to Dunedin, returned to-day to Timaru, whore he now resides.
Mr A. 6. H. Hoyles was a passenger from the south by this morning's express on his way to Wellington. The Rev. B. J. Perkins, of Balcluthn, who is going to Hokitika to take over pastoral duties, was a passenger for thd north this morning. Mr J. Mathieson (chairman), Mr T. Pry do (secretary), Mr H. S. Wilson (architect), and ’Mr Fowle were passengers from Hie south to-day on their way to attend a meeting of the Waipiata Sana* torium Committee.

J. .Stirling, who baa been rail* way station master ta Mbsgiel for about seven months, and who has been appointed to ft position in the District Traffic Manager’s office, was presented with a travelling rug by the' Mosgiel staff. Mr J. Watt, in mailing tho presentation, referred to the high esteem fn which Mr Stirling was held, and wished him all success in his new position. Guests at tho Grand Hotel include Mr A. B. Armstrong (Christchurch), Mr W. Wadsworth (Southland), Mr and Mrs R. Boss (Invercargill), Mr B. Aslow (Wellington). Among the new guests at tho City Hotel are Mr C. A. Borrell, Mr A. Stringer, and Mr S. Todd (Invercargill), Mr Simson (Queenstown), Mr Barclay (Kurow), Miss Gilmour (Wlnton), Mr A. S. Jones (Timaru), Mr J. Caster /Christchurch). and Mr G. Holmes (Waimato). Tho Otago Education Board announces that the following appointments have recently been made ; —Miss M. Hr. Hislop, sole teacher, Sutton; Miss J. H. Wilkie, assistant, Leith Valley; Mies N. IL New* man, assistant, Hampden; Mr A. E* Paterson, sole teacher, Nevis. In Kroon’s Hall on Thursday last the executive members and 1 friends of tho Dunedin Combined Sports Club met to say farewell to Mr H. L. Franklin, late secretary of the dub, who has been promoted to the position of chief clerk, Government Advertising Department, Wellington. Loading lioxing enthusiasts of Dunedin were present. Mr J. Bcott, the president of the club, in presenting Mr Franklin with a fitted attache case and a cheque for Mra Franklin, spoke of tho valuable services rendered by Mr Franklin, who has been secretary of the dub since its formation. Other members spoke of the able manner hi which Mr Franklin had carried out hia duties. The feature of the evening was when the pupils of the various teachers came forward and spoke of the kindly manner in which they had always been received by Mr Franklin whenever they required information. Messrs Strong,_ Humphries, and Gawn suoke in glowing terras of Mr Franklin’s ability in controlling tho New Zealand boxing tournament of 1923. Messrs Goodman, Campbell, and Drew', on behalf of the instructors, thanked Mr Franklin for the courteous way he had always received them, Mr Franklin, in returning thanks, said that tho office of secretary of _ tho Combined .Sports Club had given him a great deal of pleasure, and when in Wellington he would look back with pleasure {q the happy hocEfl spent in connection with tho clu%
