OBJECTION TO PEESOTOEI*. [Per D kited Press Assocunoa.] NELSON, Juno 01 About 500 people attended the adjourned mass mooting in the Theatre Roval last evening, called to protest against the Cawthron Trust Private Bill, The speakers were the mayor (Mr W. Lock), Cr Moffatt, and Mr H. Atmoro, M.P. . , They contended that the trust, with too exception of Mr W. Rout, named in tho will .should bn composed only of tho holders of the various x ,u hlic offices iwsv guo.'d in the wi.J, on tho ground that the people should control the trust, and that there should be no permanent trustees, as was also provided for in the BilL At the conclusion of tho speeches Mr At more moved a motion objecting to the Bill on these grounds. Mr C. it. Fell moved an amendment approving the Bill. This amendment, which received substantial support, was lost on tho voices, and the motion was similarly carried with a good majority.
