SCOUT NOTES

All communications to be addressed ta “ Swastika ,” ‘ Star ’ Office, before IS o’clock on Mondays.

On Saturday a district parade of all Scouts and Cubs will be held on the occasion of the “ cutting of the first sod ” at the Exhibition grounds. Arrangements are being made to include Scouts and Cuba in the procession. Troops and packs will assemble at the Triangle (Queen’s Gardens) at 1.45 sharp. Scouter Iloldcmess will be in charge. Staves will not be carried. The Mosgiel Troop held its weekly parade on Saturday evening. Scouter Brown took charge of the troop in place of Scon ter MTheat. Several games and instruction bv patrols were carried out. Commissioner Fleming, with ScouterMoora and District Cubmastcr Dorman, paid a, visit during the meeting, and they were heartily welcomed. The troop is fortunate in having a fine standard of hoys, with capable patrol leaders, who are very keen. Quartcrstafl was practised, and caused some amusement.

'Die usual weekly parade of the NonU Dunedin Troop was held on Tuesday evening in Dnndas Street Hall, there being a full attendance of Scouts. Compass instruction and signalling were practised. All Saints’ Troop has amalgamated with North Dunedin, and tho, future of Scouting in the district should be a good one.

Ocean Beach Scouts held their parade on Friday evening. The attendance was good, and nil are now in uniform. After roll call and inspection the boys who had not passed (heir tenderfoot, tests were instructed bv 11.I 1 . L. Steffens, while Scouter Moore tested the others in semaphore signalling. First aid was practised, and later singlesticks, with games of “.sniper” and quarterstaff, were enjoyed by all. Scouter Hogan, of Makarora, visited the troop. Bavonsbourne Troop held a good meeting on Friday. Quarterstaff and first aid were practised under the supervision of Scouter Trcurn. Tho boys are becomnig proficient in first aid. There was a good attendance of the First Roslyn Troop on Friday evening. Tho troop was reorganised in patrols. One hour was spent "ra signalling and the remainder in games of “Simon says,” “Are yon there?” etc. The Second Roslyn Troop, undar Scouter Smith, consists of two patrols, in charge of Leaders Johnson and Bruce. These patrols spent an instructive evening in second class work. Two new members were enrolled and instructed in the tenderfoot tests. Games of “ Scout’s nose,” “Simon says," etc., concluded a very enjoyable evening’s instruction. On Tuesday the North Dunedin Wolf Cubs held their parade. The pack regrets the loss of Scouter Gridgcmau’s services, as ho has been a keen helper with tho Wolf Cubs for over two years. His absence is only temporary, and all look forward to his return.

vScouter Sumner, of All Saints’ Troop, is taking charge of the Cubs. At the last meeting throe were enrolled, thereby bringing the total membership to twentyseven.

The Mosgiel Wolf Cubs met on Saturday evening in the church schoolroom. Cubmaster Lennox was in charge, and instructed the boys in tenderpad and first star work. There are fifteen members, and it is desired to bring the total membership to twenty-four. After (he parade the .Mosgiel Troop Committee held a meeting. Several matters affecting the troop and pack were dismissed. Tlio chairman extended a hearty welcome to the Commissioner and visiting scon tors. It is important that scoaters and troops should visit each other occasionally, thereby developing the practical spirit of the brotherhood and helpfulness. In the near future the Mosgiel Committee hopes to arrange a function in aid of the troop, and strongly appeals for the co-operation, of all residents.

Ocean Reach Pack enjoyed a good meeting on Monday. There was a full attendance. Assistant Cnbmaster Sheppard instnicted the boys in semaphore, and also judged the inspection. Drill was practised, and games of “ Scalp ’em ” and a relay race were thoroughly enjoyed. Scouter Kogan paid a surprise visit, and was welcomed with the pack haka and a Cubs’ whisper. Cnbmaster Baird, of Ravensbourne, was also present. In future the .pack will parade at Reid Fall. With the extra spare in the new headquarters two now sixes will bo formed, making a total of forty-eight.
