CHATHAM'S SERVICE

THE PREMIER'S MESSAGE. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 22. The following message has been sent by the Prime Minister to Commodore A. F. Real:-—" On H.M.S. Chatham relinquishing her duties on the New Zealand station and transferring to H.M.S. Dunedin, the New Zealand Government desires that tho commodore will express to the officers and ships' companies of both ships its good wishes and appreciation of the manner in which the various duties of the former have been carried out. The Chatham has been the senior officer's ship on the New Zealand station for over three years, and has played a considerable part in the development of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. The ship, her officers, and men have worthily upheld the traditions of the Navy. She is now leaving the dominion, to the regret of the people, but is performing a last service in taking with her a number of Nevr Zealauders for training in the Mother Country. The Dunedin lias recently arrived with the Special Service hlquadron, and the majority of the crew of the Chatham luivo been transferred to her. The Government is confident that 'he Dunedin will carry on the good work begun, by the Chatham, and, will maintain tho high standard of naval efficiency and discipline which have been established in the dominion."
