WASHINGTON, May 9.

The Japanese exclusion provision in the Immigration Bill will .become operatve on July 1, 1924, under the new agreement leached between the House of Representatives and Senate representatives who conferred. The compromise is substantially that reported as the first agreement of the conference which way; reconsidered in deference to the wishes of President Coolidge. New action was made necessary when the Mouse on Iriday refused by IC9 tn 174 votes to approve of March 1, 1925, as the dale upon which the exclusion provision will become effective. The report was recommitted, with instructions to the delegates of the House to insist on the elimination of the stipulation that the exclusion shall not take effect for eight months. The House also disapproved of the provision requesting the President to negotiate with Japan for the abrogation of the “ Gentlemen's Agreement.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
