LONDON, May 4. _ The * Daily Herald ’ (Labor), in an editorial on Labor and the future of tho Empire, says: “None of the Imperialists really understand tho British Commonwealth of Nations. They nr© living in the past. Labor looks to tho future ,and sees that common aims and ideals will bo a far stronger bond between Br.iiain and tho dominions and India than artificial trade arrangements or naval and military fetters. Labor recognises tho fact that tho days of the old exchange of manufactures for tho colonies’ raw materials are passing, and that tho dominions aro seeking to manufacture their own raw materials. Freotrado within tho Empire wonld bo worth something, and might load to world Freotrado, but preferences, which aro merely politicians’ playthings, were devised chiefly with tho object of keeping tho Empire together as a war Bower.”— A. and N.Z. Cable.
