OBITUARY
MR J. 11. BOND, Tho death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Mr John Hamilton Bond, of Mount Hutt, Methven, an older brother of Major W. N. Bond, of Claremont, South Canterbury. Mr Bond was sixtyfix years of ago, and was the eldest son of f.iio Rev. J. H. Bond, of Romanslcijjh, Devonshire, England. He came to Now Zealand in 1876, and took over the Mount Algid us rim in Rakaia Gorge, where ho lived until 1890. Ho then took up land in Marlborough district, whore ho stayed for about fix years; and afterwards joined tho firm of "Maling and Christchurch. He was a member of that firm until four years ago, when ho took over Mount Hutt station at Mdhven, which has been his homo since. His wife predeceased him four years ago,, hut lie leaves two daugh-(ers-.-Misses Beryl Bond and Barbara Bond. Tho deceased took an ontluifiiasiie interest in sport. For several years he was master of tho Christchurch Hounds, and was closely associated with Hagley Park golf from its commencement.—-From our correspondent. MR C. 11. EDWARDS. Mr C. 11. Edwards, manager of the Napier Caa Company, died suddenly in tho street at Napier last night. Ho was conversing with, two other members of tho ChamborYf Commerce, of which ho bad been attending a meeting, when, ho had a seizure and fell to the ground, expiring before ho could bo removed. lie was a highly-esteemed citizen, find a. prominent public man, and sat on the borough council, tho Chamber of Commerce, tho school committee, and the Thirty Thousand Club. He was also a keen _ supporter of cricket, bowling, and swimming, and took an especial interest in the Hawke’s Bay branch of tho Royal Life-saving Society.
