W.E.A. ACTIVITIES
A preliminary meeting of the members of the Anderson Bay class of the. W.M.A. was held in the Anglican Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Johnson, district organiser, was in attendance, and explained that the class was being reorganised this year to study sociology under Mr A. C. Watson, M.A, The latter then outlined Ids syllabus, which is to include topics such as the origin and growth of society, the problem of leadership and representation in social organisation, the conflict of loyalties between different groups, and studies in properly, freedom, public opinion, and social progress.
There was a good attendance at ihe first meeting of the psychology class at the University. Professor Woocllliorpe presided, and introduced Dr Dunlop, who spoko on ‘The Fields and Methods of Psychology.’ Miss Mathesoa was elected secretary of the class. It was decided to meet this year on Thursdays. Our Christchurch correspondent, telegraphs : At a meeting of the Canterbury District Council of the Workers’ Educational Association an invitation war. received from the centra! office of the W.E.A. in England for a fraternal delegate from New Zealand to attend gatherings in connection with the celebration of the twenty-first anniversary of the establishment of the W.E.A. It was decided to ask the Rev. L. (J. Whitehead (formerly of Selwyn College, Dunedin), who is at present in Oxford, England, to represent the Canterbury district, and to ask Mr J. Hodgson, of Christchurch public, speaking class, to attend the gatherings.
