WINTER SPORTS SECTION. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 27. For the first contests in the winter sporia section of the eighth Olympiad at Chamonix there was fine weather. There were twenty-seven competitors, representing ten nations, in the 500 metres speed skating, which was won by ar American named Jewtraw. Time, 44see. Olsen (Norway) was second. The 5,000 metres race was won by Thunberg (Finland), in Bmin 39sec. _ Skutnabb (Finland) was secohd. The classification of the leading nations at the end of the day was: Finland, points; Norway, 17£ points; United States, 11.—Reuter.
