NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. RECORDS BROKEN. Tho New Zealand swimming championship meeting opened at Wanganui on Saturday afternoon under very auspicious conditions. Some fine swimming was witnessed, though better times could have been put up in several cases had the winners been pushed. Results: MEN’S NEW ZEALAND CHA.MPlONship.—First heat: L. Fairgray (Auckland) 1, V. Reid (Wanganui) 2, 51. C. Stockley (Auckland) 3. Tho winner led all the way and won by three yards. Time, 64 3-ssec. Second heat; C. Claridge (Wellington) 1, W. F. Smith (Auckland) 2, D? Murrell (Wellington) 5. Abo started : T. M'Kenzie (Hawke’s Bay). Won on the touch ; tho third a yard away. Time, 64 3-ssec. Third heat; N. C. Batchelor (Canterbury) 1, J. The champion came back to the a bit in the third lap, Claridge and Smith being about two feet behind when he turned the last time. Batchelor was up with Claridge and Smith half way homo, but could not catch Emvright, who won on tho touch. Batchelor was a touch away from Smith. Miss Shand forged ahead an even Stan, and at Toytis, which was covered in 51 l-ssec, was a yard in front of Miss Stockier. Miss Shand then drew away and won comfortably.
