The following resolution has beep passed by the New Zealand Sports Protection League;—" The Board of Control is of opinion that the inauguration of a system providing for daylight saving is desirable in the interests of the community, and invites sports bodies and organisation of persons favorable to the reform to co-operato with the league for the purpose of securing the necessary legislation during tho next session of Parliament." Bvoadbenfc (Victoria) won tho mile _in 2min 16 2-sseo, and also the five miles junior championship in llmin 1 3-ssec. SWIMMING. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. For a couple of days past tho trains arriving at Wanganui have brought largo numbers of swimmers from different parts of New Zealand. The Canterbury contingent, numbering about fifty, arrived ou Wednesday, and a portion of Otago’s team also arrived tho same day. Yesterday very large parties from Auckland and Wellington arrived, and teams from Otago and Hawke’s Bay, and a largo number of interested supporters came in by the evening train. Altogether, there are fully 200 visitors, and tho hotels and boarding houses are having their accommodation taxed. The managers of the various teams report that their entrants are all in good fettle, and it is expected that some fine racing should result. Tho weather Is not at all promising, being very cold and windy. The Wanganui Centre is making complete arrangements to carry the big programme through successfully, and is ijistidling a boiler to heat tho water, which at present is very cold.

AMATEUR ATHLETICS. AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Mr Davies, president of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, states that with the one exception all those who were asked to subscribe towards the expenses of sending New Zealand athletes to the Australasian championships have complied with the council’s request. The contestants are Andrews and Miss M’Laren, and Walker and Miss Macfarlane. In the men’s handicap doubles,' Lampe and Powdrell (Wanganui) beat Dickie and Wallace (Waverley), 6-3, 2-6, 8-6. In the ladies’ handicap singles, Miss Arita Howe (scratch) beat Miss K. Martin (rec. 20), 50-42. In the mixed handicap doubles, Andrews and Miss M’Laren heat Gawith and Mrs Melody, 60-38.
