RAIN KILLS GRASS FIRE
SPARKS FROM ENGINE, [Per United Press Association.] BLENHEIM, January 15. A serious gmass fire broke out on Mr F. W. Hill’s run in Ithe Redwood Pass 'dwtrtot. Dosoite the efforts of largo ■bands of neighbors from as far away as Seddon, the fire threatened at one stage to spread over the whole country _as _ far es A water e. A timely fall of rain just before 10 .p.m., however, enabled the bitoe to bo checked.
It da believed that, despite the magnitude of the outbreak, surprisingly little damage has boon done, though some hundreds of acres of feed were destroyed. As far ctb Mr Hill is aware, no stock was lost, and the (fences appear to be intact. Tlhe fire was ca.ruxad by sparks from the enioino ctf the afternoon train to Seddon setting fire to the dry grass on the hillside.
