RIFLE ASSOCIATION

THE ANNUAL MEETING. Mr E. R. Smith presided at the annual meeting of the Otago Rifle Association last evening, and in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, stated that in 1922 the bank balance stood at £4l 15s Bd, in 1925 £54 19s 4d, and this year it was £45 7s 4d. The association owed nothing, and there were 730 rounds of ammunition on hand, worth about £2. At the tournament, last year £ls was received under the Andrews bequest, and this enabled the association to reduce the entry fee. There were 107 entries, and £4O of the prize money was won by the tyros. This year the association was receiving 10,000 rounds of ammunition from tho Government free of charge. He had also received a letter from tho Southern Command to the effect that eighteen and a-half acres of land had been purchased behind the association’s range, thus making tho position quite safe and out of range of houses. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; president, Mr Young; vice-presidents—Messrs E. R. Smith, Boyne, Moir, Frederic, Fraser, Proudfoot, Ongley, Silvius, H. L. Tapley, and the presidents of the various rifle clubs in Otago; council, one representative from each rifle club or company in tho Southern Command; hon. secretary and treasurer, Rifleman W. MTveich; hon. auditor, Rifleman W. Bannorman; Programme Committee—Messrs E. R. Smith, F. J. Silvius, Rifilemen Parsons, W. Buchanan, R. Maokie, W. A. Graham, R. K. Johnston, and W. M'Keich.

Mr F. W. Clayton moved a hearty vote of thanks and gratitude to Mr E. R. Smith, Mr Proudfoot, and Rifleman W. Bannerman for their efforts in the past, which had done so much to bring the association to its present standard. This was carried with acclamation.
