A bowling club in Wellington is very proud of its badge, a. kiwi, which has been affixed to its front gate, There is a Dunedin dlub that boasts of the Mine badge, and as the result of a. misunderstain ding quite en amount of discussion arose at Saturday evening's meeting of members of the New Zealand Council and delegates from the centres. Tho trouble started after the following remit from the Wellington Centre had been moved by Mr A. Coles:—“Tliot this centre is of opinion Hurt the Dominion Council should make provision for the registration of club emblems and monograms to protect those at present adopted by chibs, end to prevent duplication in the future."

Dir W], Jacob son (Dunedin delegate) prote-sted that, if every club had a. badge bowlers would resemble members of ' a circus or of a. brass band. There-- were quite enough officials wen ring badges as it was.

Mr K Mcadowcroflt (vice-president of council) maintained that ii a. club wanted a badge, there should bo no reason why it should not protpot it. Wellington was very proud of its'kiwi on the gate. Mr E. W. Porter (Wellington representative on "the council) also asked why Mr Jacobson should object to tho kiwi. “I have not the ‘(lightest objection,” replied Mr Jacobson ; “ hut tho matter is not worthy of tho council’s notice.” However, he (Mr Jnoohson) felt /(that there were too many badges. “If you have a kiwi,” he said to the Wellingtoninns, “ keep it, but don’t take ours.” Ho was assured that if the remit woro adopted its provisions would not bo retrospective. Furthering his protest a. stage, Mr Jacobson said that the adoption of the badges would do no ono any good, except the engravers, who favored the remit greatly. He did not favor registration. Mr C. S. Cordon also spoke against registration,. Ho felt that it would mean a great deal of trouble, and in any care the centres, if they desired badges, would not take those of other clubs. Mr Jacobson: “Don’t take ours.”

When Mr Coles replied ho pointed out that Mr Jacobson had misunderstood tho remit. He had been talking .about badges. The remit specified emblems, which were entirely different. Some clubs were very jealous about their emblems, and would like them protected. He felt, that it would bo quite worth tho trouble to register the emblems. Tho remit was lost.
