CROSS-BRED WOOL

SPLENDID SALES IN AUSTRALIA. During the wool Bales in Sydney, just prior to Christmas, cross-bred wools were sellipg splendidly, and it was really amazing the attention which Badfvrd representatives were giving to nil descriptions, there being not the slightest hecitoticn in the demand. There was a considerable quantity of stipes and seconds available, but 8.A.W.8.A. was supplying the bulk of those. For good combing classes in grease and slipes there was keen competition, and prices inclined in favor of sellers. Really good SS-56V fleece were selling on a clean basis of 38d, 56’s wore costing about ?Ad, clean and super 50’s 26d; but the biggest rise wss seen in 46'b. France took some nice parcels, but the hulk of the .wools were secured for Bradford topmakers, whilst Huddersfield, Bradford, and Galsvahiels merchants took big quantities of slipes from 46’b to 56’s. There has sprung up in Bradford a very keen inquiry' for greasy cross-breds, chiefly 50-56’s, and although America was not seeking th’«e wools, other markets are open, and there is a persistent call for anything of combing character. _• Stocks of greasy merino combing wool in Bradford are said to be in very small compass, and any encouragement in the way of a slight drop in prices would bring Bradford into the market. What stands in the way of Bradford is the unwillingness on the part of spinners to pay more than 5e for a good warp 64’s top. However, it is a fact that stocks of greasy combing wool in Bradford, cither in Die bale or matching state, are exceedingly light, and any influx of business for tops, yarns, or pieces would soon compel Bradford topmakers to replace stocks at the best price they can.
