REMISSION OF DEATH PENALTY RECOMMENDED.

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.

LONDON, January 13. (Received January 14, at 9.30 a.m.) The Homo Secretary announces that the investigation concerning Lance-corporal Dearnley has been completed. The result does not touch the validity of the verdict, but it affords grounds for a remission of the death penalty. It is recommended that the sentence be commuted to imprisonment for life.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
