(Received December 12, at 10.5 a.m.) A majority of the elected members to tho Legislative Council have protested against tho appointment of two members of a largo commercial firm to the Executive Council, on tho ground that it was not in the best interests of the colony. The Governor promised to refer the discussion to the Secretary of State for the Colonies. The Budget, presented yesterday, disclosed that the colony was in an improved position. The Treasurer expressed .the opinion that the period of depression was past.
