THE TRANSVAAL SAYS “NO”
TO THE LIGHT BALLS OVER. At tho annual mccljiig of the Transvaal Cricket Union, held at J.-haunesburg, the question of the adoption by the union _of the ciglit-!).J! over was raised. Mr W. Nelson said that if .adopted it would tend to brighten cnckc. and would create further public interest in tho game. Mr Treadwell, in seconding, said that the eight-ball over in Australia had proved a groat (success. Tho Chairman ciid that lie was in favor o p tho adoptioi of Die proposal, more especially in Saturday afternoon, criokct. Mr A. •S/Franus drew -attention to tho fact Hat in the TTanxvaa' League ast season 82 of tbo 212 matches played wero drawn. Ho contended that Hie eight-bail over would pioally rcdt.ee the number of drawn games. Tho proposal was rejected by 12 votes to 11.
It is only o. matter of time, perhaps, when: (he 1.-ansvaal Union will bco things in a different light (says a (Sydney writer). The eight-bail over is a success in Australia, and there is no reason why it shouldl not be similarly successful in South Africa or anywhere else, fiavo in Hades, where there aro no good cricketers.
