Mr Hall, in addressing the small number of people who had gathered to hear (he result of the voting, said that ho had to thank them for placing him at tho bead of tho poll. He had striven before when he was a member of the St. Hilda Council to promote its progress, and ho could assure them that ho would again do his best in tho interests of the borough. Mr Beattie said that ha was a retired school teacher, and that he had plenty of time to devote himself to tho welfare cf the borough. Ho was of tho opinion that tho central part of tiro borough required a good deal of attention, and he would pay particular attention to this part, without, of course, overlooking the demands of other portions in tho borough. He did not thank that the St. Hilda Council was to blame for the existing shortage of water—if anyone was to blame it was the City Council. Ho had heard that day, however, that there was a shortage of water in the city itself, and, tliat being so, he thought the City Council and the Borough Council should act In conjunction and endeavor to obtain a better service. ... , Mr M'Curdy briefly thanked the electors. and Mr Hall apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr Ritchie.
