Mr Bret Shand, who has been spending a fdw days in Dunedin, returned to Havelock this morning. Messrs A. 11, Fisher, J. Mallard, and J. Edgar left for Wellington this morning to attend a conference of the Underwriters’ Association. Mr F. Reado Wauehop was a passenger for Christchurch by to-day's express. He will leave New Zealand at an early dato for Australia and America on a four months’ business tour. Visitors to tho city staying at the Oban Hotel include Mr 0. Cussen (Christchurch), Mr C. E. Watt (Invercargill), Mr A. C. Falconer (Christchurch), Miss Goldie and Mrs Wright (Invercargill), Mr J. Connors (Invercargill), Mr E. F. Henwood, Mr C. W. Christenson, Mr W T . Coulter, and Mr J. Simpson (all of Christchurch). Mr R. M'Gillivray, of the instructional staff, Department of Agriculture, has been appointed assistant instructor of tho Otago and Southland district, to be stationed at Invercargill. Mr M'Gillivray returned several weeks ago from the United Kingdom, where ho had been taking courses in agricultural colleges, and prior to his visit there ho was assistant instructor of tho Canterbury district.—-Our Christchurch correspondent. Tho appointment of two further information officers to act with the New Zealand staff at iho British Empire Exhibition ivas announced yesterday by tho Minister of Industries and Commerce (tho Hon. W. Downio Stewart). The officers selected are Mr F. R. Callaghan (Auckland) and Mr 0. R. Clark (Auckland). Among the new guests at tho Grand ' Hotel are Mr E. F. Nicoll (Ashburton), Mr and Mrs Jas. MacmeLkan (Melbourne), Mr : J. Simpson (Invercargill), Mr W. Sender- ; son (Invercargill), Miss Henderson (Invercargill), Mr W. M. Maclean (Christchurch), and Mr N. L, MacKenzie (Christchurch). At the conclusion of tho meeting of the Green Island Boropgh Council last night I a resolution of congratulation was passed j to Mr A. Kano (an ex-councillor and exmayor) and Mrs Kano, who recently celebrated their silver wedding. The retiring superintendent of the local ] Police Force (Mr S. P.
