HOLLYWOOD SENSATION
ESCAPE OF FILM STAR.
SHOT FROM A SHRUBBERY.
Details of a mysterious occurrence at the former Hollywood home of Miss Mary Milos Mintcr, the film star, which is now occupied by Miss Sigrid Ilolmquist, another film star, have just been revealed. The authorities have hitherto suppressed the facts in the hope of capturing the people involved. Miss Minter’s friends are convinced that she was the object of a plot to kill her. It is stated that Miss Minter let her Hollywood house to Miss Ilolmquist on June 10. A few days later, Miss Ilolmquist says, two men appeared at the door and forced their way into the house, saying they were detectives, but left ,without an explanation. During a dinner party at the house some days later, Miss Holmquist, who strikingly resembles Miss Minter, stepped through the French windows to the verandah, when immediately a shot was fired from the .shrubbery, the bullet grazing her shoulder, and inflicting a slight flesh wound. The men of the party searched the grounds, hut found nobody. Miss Holmquist was awakened on a subsequent night by a flashlight moving about her bedroom. She screamed, and the prowler disappeared. Miss Minter’s friends believe that she was the woman sought. Miss Minter herself declares that she is being watched, and that she sleeps with a revolver under her pillow. It is now announced that Miss Minter has deferred her action against her mother demanding an account of how a portion'of her film earnings has been spent. The indications are that Mary is extending the olive branch.
