Too often the self-sacrificing man is willing to_ sacrifice his better half.— I Philadelphia ‘ Inquirer.’ Over a thousand pipers in the record number of pipe bands—including, for the first time, two from Ireland—competed for the Duke of Argyll’s trophy at the annual Cowal Highland Gathering at Duncon on August 25. _ To make tho occasion even more historic in point of numbers, noncompeting bands and pipers generally were invited to take part in the march past— Wi’ a thousand pipers, an’ a’, an’ a’, We’ll up an’ give them a blaw, a blaw; and what a braw blaw it should be, hooch ayo!
