CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS DANCE.

On Wednesday evening hosts of young people, from tiny tots barely five years old, to tall school girls and boys, made merry at tho Cabaret., Mrs Barling dressed as a gipsy, mothered a very largo family, while Mr Wauchop (toreador) took great delight in dancing with tho little ones. A huge wonder cracker hung the full length of the Tudor Hall, and when Mr Wauchop lined tho boys at one end of tho hall and tho girls at the other, and lowered the big yollow-and-black bomb, a merry tug-of-war ensued, until tho crack announced tho opening of the secret panel, and into tho interior disappeared tiny Betty Barling (tho sweetest of fairy queens) and Joy Barnett (the wceniest of bewitching "witches), who handed out prizes to all the children present. Then followed tho most weird of lootings, balloon squeakings. noises in a. hundred tones. The party opened with tho grand march, a very pretty spectacle, after which prizes were awarded as follows: —Girls : Most effective costume, five years old, Joy Barnett (an emerald green and black witch, black cats, broom stick, and all): most original costume, “ Workbags,” Misses Veronica and Cecily Todd. Boys: Most effective, “ Purple Chinaman,’’ Norman West; most original, “ Maori," Leno Samson. Later in the evening tho lucky spot winners proved to be Misses Molly Warren and Joyce Skinner (courtiers in white satin suits and black long plumed hats), and Masters O’Neil! (gondolier'. and Throp (flannels). Tho specialty dan Miss Marie Osten (Carmen), and Mr Wauchop (toreador), was much enjoyed, an encore being de. manded. Among those present veers noticed Mrs M’Farlano and her small daughter Betty (an adorable moth); Mrs Bartholomew, who brought two small daughters, Margaret (Frivolity] and Katie (pierette) ; Mrs Syrett, with her small nephew, lan Styohe (black-and-white pierrot); Miss Mary Samson and her small nephew (a prize winner); Mrs Mathewson, who brought a party of gaily-dressed young people; Mrs O’Neil, with her daughter Helen (pineapple) ; Mrs Throp, with her small daughter Adeline and her son; Mrs 0. Reid and party, in which were her daughters Margaret (pierette) and Isobel (witch); Mrs Oldham and Mrs Laidlaw; Mr and Mrs V. S. Jacobs and their small son Sammy (a quaint Dutch boy); Mrs Arthur Barnett and party, including Mrs Steve Wilson, little Miss Barnett (a lovely powder puff in pink satin and swansdown), Master Barnett (a sailor), and wee Joy Barnett, the tiny witch before mentioned; Mrs Bait brought a number of youn" folk; as did Mrs Hastie —Lily i Carroll '(pink-and-black pierette), Brenda
