MEETING AT WINGATUI. The weather wa.s fine, but dull, for the Otago Hunt Steeplechase Meeting. There, was a fain- attendance at the outset. ‘ The track was in good order. Results:— HUNTERS’ HURDLES, lOOsovs; second horse 20sovs and third lO.sovs. 11,m. 1 — H. Aeifoii-Ada-ms’s Cartoon (Sarlo —Chinook), aged, 10.13 (A. E. Wonnahl) 1 3—A. M'Kerrow’s Claveriiou.se, 12.3 (J. C. Tilton) 2 2L. Kelc.her’.s Sherlock, 10.5 (A. S. Ellis) 3 Others: 4 Galway (11.3, A. K. Ellis), 5 Vincent (9.13, C. 3ia.sk). 9 Jonah Roy (9.12, R. W. Weir), 6 Ca.iibi.ni (9.10. U, Dawson), 7 .Plasticine (car. 5711 J,, A. K, Horn), 8 Ukulele (9,10, L. Smith). Vincent and Cartoon led out, bnf. (lie former fell heavily at the first hurdle, his rider (C. Rusk) lining badly hint. Cartoon continued to lead, with Sherlock and CLavorhonae next. Tho favorite was never headed, a.nd won cosily by two lengths from Clavea-house, who got up to beat Sherlock by three lengths. Plasticine was fourth, and Galway fifth. Time, 3mia 5 : I l-fiscc.
There was a protest agaiust the, winner on the ground that he had not put in tho necessary five runs at the hunt to qualify. After evidence had- been taken tho protest wa.s dismissed. Hard Hit broke down going along tho back, and crossing the post and rails' Tokomairiro took charge and fiongahme moved up. Racing to tho water jump, Tokomairiro was well clear, and, 'drawing away, won easily by twelve lengths, Tainui 11. being twenty lengths away, and General Stalker fourth.
