The Hon. Q. J. And'erson, Minister of Labor and Mines, accompanied by Ma- F, Bherwood (private secretary), travelled to Goro by the through express yesterday. While in the south tho Minister will transact departmental business, including some matters connected with the raining industry. Lord Oaesillis does not leave the Old Country until November 10 on his visit to the chapter lodges working under the Scottish Masonic institutions in Australia and New Zealand. Mr James Brown, of Messrs James Brown and! Co., accountants, left by tho Moeraki to-day on a visit to Australia. Mr Walter Monk arrived from the north yesterday to arrange for the two concerts to be given here by M. Benno Moiseiwitsch, the brilliant pianist, who is touring under the J. and N. Tait management. The Rev. James Morris Beaufort, formerly of tho Royal Flying Corps, is the first vioar of the new Anglican parochial district of Hauraki Plains at Tumi, The Rev. Howard Elliott has assumed the duties of dominion secretary of hire Protestant Political Association, in addition to those of national lecturer. Tho late -dominion secretary, Mr H. S. Bililby, has been appointed secretary and manager of the 'Sentinel' Newspaper Company. Newly-arrived guests at the Grand Hotel include Mr and Mrs B. L. Lano (Christchurch), Mr R. C. Hughes (Wellington), Mr A. Woodward (Waimate), and Mr and Mrs E. Cox (Christchurch). A presentation of several gifts was made to Mr George Meggett by tho employees of the Otago Harbor Board on -the -occasion of his marriage. Mr Bardsley (secretary to the board 1 ), in making tho presentation, referred to the -high esteem in which Mr Megigotb was hold by all the members of the staff. Mr Wilkie and- Mr Horne, on behalf of other departments, expressed their appreciation of Mr Meggett. Mr E. Barrett (Christchurch), Mr J. Thomson (New Plymouth), and 'Mr and Mrs M’Corraack (Christchurch) aro among the new guests quartered at the Excelsior Hotel. Mr and Mrs W. C. Allmitt were entertained at a banquet by the Roelyn andMaori Hill Methodist Churches, in grateful acknowledgment of their long and faithful service. During his connection with the church, covering a- period of about thirty-six years, -Mr Allnutt has filled all the most important positions of a layman with credit to himself and much (benefit to the church. Mr and Mrs Allnutt were t resented with a Mosgiol rug each, and liss Allnutt with a strong of beads. A copy of the minute recording Mr Allnutt’s services to the church at Rosiyu and Maori Hill was also 'handed over. At last night’s meeting of the Otago Trades and Labor Council Mr R. Ferguson wrote stating that owing to tho pressure of other work he would be compelled to resign from the council. It was decided to express to Mr Ferguson the council’s regret at his decision and to record its deep appreciation of his valuable services during his twenty-four years’ membership.
