TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL
Tho monthly meeting of (ho Taievi County Council was presided over by Cr Walter Blackie. THE LATE AIR WESTWOOD. Reference was made to the death of the county foreman (Mr R. AVestwood), and, on the motion of the chairman, a vote of condolence with the relatives was carried. The Engineer referred to the death in his report as followsHe was known to us all as ‘The Faithful Boh,’ and I can only say that no man could possibly have rendered more faithful and conscientious service over a long period of years. He was ‘tho old identity’ of the roads, and worked for tho county since the day of its constitution, and fur the Road Board before the day of the county. It was doubtless the exposure and strain occasioned by the rush work of road restoration after the two consecutive floods Unit hastened his end, but it was his wish to continue the active discharge of his duty to the last. Users of tho Taieri roads will doubtless appreciate the spirit of the roadman of tho old school who served their interests so well, and, as they travel the roads, have a thoughtful memory of one who gave all Ids days to their making.” GENERAL. Thomas M'Jlillan (Green Island Bush) wroto enclosing requisition from fourteen ratepayers asking that » guard fence be erected on road loading up from Concord to Corslorphino road, as it was not a safe road for wheel traffic.—Granted. ]n response to letters from ratepayers, it was decided in repair (ho fence between the Otokia railway and the Otokia service bridge; to place some metal at (ho approach to tho Alomona Hall and to the iVlomona School: to ask the engineer to report on the cause of water lying in the. wafer tables at Momma; and to inquire, into the matter of shifting the culvert in front of Air Hacked’? property at Mumona lower, down the road, and also making tho road its proper width.
