MONTHLY MEETING,
The monthly meeting of tho Bed Gross Society was held on Monday afternoon; present —two Rev. V. G. Bryan King wiiairnianh Mrs Lindo Fcrnuson, Miss Williams, and Mr G. i>. Smith.
Tho 'National War Funds Council, W ellington, forwarded- a. copy of tho annual report. The report contained tho following Consul ciai urn of applications for relief arid assistance to' returned soldiers ol the Expeditionary Forces and their dependent/.; who could not ho covered by tho War Belief Associations have been given careful consideration on. tho basis of necessity and the merits of each case, and under this heading, after deducting repayments, the sum of £5,175 was provided during tho year. Tho function of providing extra eomlorts to soldiers in hospitals and sanatoria is in tho hands of tho Bed Gross, and excellent results have been attained. Economy is secured, while at tho same time full provision d made lor tho comfort and recreation of the soldiers. In regard to leather supplies for vocational work at Invercargill, the Invercargill Bed 1 Cross wrote replying that it would continue to draw its supplies direct from Dunedin as before. The Matron at Wa.kari Sanatorium wrote asking for an -outfit of underclothing for a newly-received soldier patient. Bequests .wore also received from two ex-soldiers (T.B, cases) for blankets and underclothing, Miss Williams reported having attended to request?.—Approved. Wellington headquarters forwarded copies of 'World's Health,’ covering the latest informa.lkui; in regard- 1 to public health and social hymen-e.—it was resolved ■that this centre subscribe for ten copies of the journal. In reference to the Bed Gross nurse, tho New Zealand Council at Wellington wrote stating that it- was felt that a mostvaluable purpose would bo served by the nurse spending-about-three months in each locality. It had been resolved that Bister Webster be allotted to 'Wellington Centre for the first three months to determine in what manner her services would he utilised.
It was also resolved that tho granting of a .further (scholarship bo deferred pending a trial of the present scholarship holders.
The Matron at Montecillo reported that four patients had been admitted and four discharged. The member's erf the staff are doing good 1 work, and affairs generally aro going along smoothly. ; Mrs Lindo Ferguson reported having regularly visited Waleari Sanatorium, and stated that the men wore very grateful for tho interest taken in them. She was strongly of opinion that, in order to promote the comfort of tho patients, gome bettor arrangement should bo made in regard to heating.—The meeting endorsed this view. It was resolved to write to the Hospital Board in reference to the . matter.
Miss Williams and Mr Smith intimated that they had as usual visited the soldier patients in the Dunedin Hospital until tho influenza restriction operated. Comforts were kept regularly supplied, and tho men wore grateful for them. A satisfactory financial statement was adopted, and a number of accounts certified by the treasurers were passed for payment.
