Professor Unwins, in addressing a meeting of parliamentarians on tho development of tho Empire in relation to (ho Imperial Conference, insisted that members of the conference must approach tho problems of Em.iprc trade with absolutely open minds regardless of past proor pledge.-. Tho Empire’s trade was in a critical position, and it could only bo preserved and developed by a bold preferential policy, upon which the Government must he prepared to appeal to the country. Tho present preference was practically valueless to dominions like Australia and New Zealand,—A, and N.Z. Cable.
[Professor He.vins is a former Undersecretary for the Colonics, and was lately director c.i the London School of Economics and Political -Science, which lie resigned to become secretary of Air Chamberlain's Tariff Commission.[
