AIR DEVELOPMENTS
BRITISH ESTIMATES.
EXTRAVAGANCE SUGGESTED.
Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.
LONDON, July 24,
The Select Committee on the Air Estimates expresses tho opinion that, while tho flying brancli is well managed, there is a groat tendency towards extravagance and lack, of proper financial control or efficient organisation in the Ministry itself. As an instance, it points out that a group captain and a chaplain after eighteen years’ service nro permitted to have two batmen. No information is forthcoming on fine point beyond the fact that as officers advance in rank (hero is a certain dignity (o bo kept up. An air marshal has three batmen. The committee also commented on (lie entertainment allowances granted to officers.' Tho Air Report mentions that, whereas it fakes thirty men to launch a French aeroplane, eighty are required to launch n British war machine. We employ three men for every one in tho French Air Force, which costs only a fraction of what the British does.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
THE BURNEY SCITFMI
TO EGYPT FIRST,
LONDON, July 25,
Tt is expected that tho Prime Minister will make a statement in the House of Commons to-day regarding the Burney scheme.
Tho ‘Morning Post’ understands that tho scheme to which the Cabinet bus assented shows a slight modification from Commander Buraev’s proposals. The experimental stage will extend only to Egypt, and if tho proposition promises commercial possibilities it will be extended in India, and afterwards to Australia. Tho Government assistance will expand with tho expansion of tho service.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
