The Wanganui correspondent of the ‘ Lyttelton Times ’ wired on Tuesday last Early in the month tho Dunedin papers contained the .statement that Mr H. Turner bad received, out of Tonkin and Co.’s private letter-box, a post card addressed to Mr Ferguson. There being no one of that name in the firm’s employ, ho became interested in the card, as it bore the correct, number of the (inn’s box. The message on the card indicated that the writer was a- ,Sydney mother who was in quest of information legarding her returned soldier son, Frank Marshad I Marshal! left with the Australian looes, was wounded in the bead and taken pnsoner. Two companions had toil the mother that a soldier wh mi it-vy bad be.'ped to escape had suffered from lapses of memory. All three arrived in imudon together, and his companions put a ticket | round Marshall’s nock, and told him where to -go to find the military. Apparently he never arrived, and all trace lias been lost of him since that. date. The I mother then heard that lie had arrived |in Dunedin. Hence the inquiry. Air AY. A, Grace, of AVanganui, states ! (hat in 1918 a returned soldier bearing i the name of Frank Alarsball was buried ! hero. He had been staying in Keith I street,, and was somewhat peculiar in his i manner, which leads Air Grace to believe j that lie tnav have been (lie missing soldier. He is making further inquiries with a view to throwing fresh light on tho matter. Tho soldier in question did not belong to AVanganui.
